community Learning Centers

Our Community Learning Centers provide foundational education to children in rural Ghana. We recently opened a new center in a more remote community, offering the village's first access to formal education. These centers not only deliver quality education but also address nutrition, through daily school lunches and promote environmental stewardship with school gardens and tree planting. By employing local teachers and staff, we ensure that the benefits of education extend throughout the community.

our impact

  • 400 children, ages 4 to 11, attend school in pre-K to second grade
  • 6,000+ lunches served annually
  • 800 student uniforms sewn by vocational training graduates
  • 21 teachers, cooks, and caretakers financially support over 150 family members

Investing in Education, Rooted in Community

Engage Globally’s four Community Learning Centers provide vital access to early education in rural Ghana, serving over 400 children aged 4–11 each year. These centers are more than schools—they are hubs of opportunity, offering quality education, nutrition, and environmental awareness, all led by local teachers and staff.

In 2024, we opened our newest center in the remote village of Duahi—the first school the village has ever had. This school creates treasured opportunities for families who had no previous access to formal education.
Education does more than open doors—it transforms lives. With your support, Engage Globally ensures no student is left behind due to geography, gender, or poverty.

  • Quality education: Active curriculum in core subjects led by trained, bilingual local teachers.

  • Innovative curriculum: We utilize place-based, active learning strategies to engage students in learning from available resources and with cultural appreciation.

  • Nutrition: School lunches offer critical daily meals that are especially vital as our partners are experiencing severe drought-driven food insecurity.

  • Environmental education: School gardens, tree planting, and sustainability programs.

  • Local resources: Uniforms, desks, carpets, and bookshelves are made by graduates of our vocational programs. This circularity supports our small business / social enterprise program and community development.

  • Valued employment: We employ 21 teachers, cooks, and caregivers—all residents of the partner villages and many who are graduates of our programs. Their salaries support over 200 family members.

Student impact stories

Rabiatu

Six-year-old Rabiatu is a kindergarten student and is pictured here receiving her first uniform. She is the first person in her family to ever attend school. Her teacher shares that Rabiatu loves to read and play!

Mohammed

Four-year-old Mohammed loves school! His teacher says, “He likes reading even if he cannot. He likes singing and dancing. I myself love him because he makes everyone in class happy!”

Sanatu

Five-year-old Sanatu loves dancing and reading at school. At home she helps tend goats. She hopes to become a teacher someday.

Community Learning Center Goals:

  • Annually add new kindergarten classes at each center.
  • Construct additional classrooms at two of our centers.
  • Enhance our solar energy, rainwater catchment, and handwashing systems.
  • Hire additional local teachers and teaching assistants for pre-K classes.
  • Provide motorcycles to all female teachers to help them safely reach the more rural schools every day and on time.
  • Increase the size and variety of school lunches to combat rising food insecurity.
  • Build a fifth learning center in a more rural partner village where children currently have no access to school.
  • Install boreholes (wells) to provide clean water at each school.

With every school we build, we see long-term transformation: educated children, empowered families, and thriving communities. Your support helps us turn these visions into reality.
